THE BLACK DAHLIA will receive an invited staged reading at the Music Stand Series at the Whitefire Theatre on August 29th. Most people have heard of the Black Dahlia murder. But if you ask anyone about the woman herself, you are likely to get as many different perceptions of Elizabeth Short as people responding. Her nebulous identity dates back to the original reporting in 1947, as family, friends and connections all described conflicting ideas of Elizabeth. THE BLACK DAHLIA follows the investigations of a legendary newspaperwoman and a cub reporter on competing papers. As they interview the people who knew her, they piece together the fragments of her story until the mosaic of a complex woman makes them consider: how can we truly know Elizabeth Short? And by extension, how can we truly know even ourselves?
